jumping in

freezing water

doesn’t hurt

at first

but like pain,

the cold endures

and compounds

with every second

the temperature

staying the same

yet somehow

feeling worse

by the minute

pain so great

for so long

with no escape

made me feel

so small

humbling me

transforming me

from one

who carries others

to a burden

to all

who know me

how all I could do

was close my eyes

and suffer

for when I opened them

reality was too scary

to bear

how after freezing

for so long

after suffering

after feeling so useless

for so long

nothing ordinary

bothers me

for none

of my old worries
